"Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing, and perfect will." (NIV)
Paul didn't like the Romans, to be frank. In this passage from the letter to the Romans, we can feel the urgency in Paul's words. I personally used to think that the only way to worship is with kickin' music and throwing your hands up to God . Others may think that traditional hymns were the only way to go. Here is a rude awakening for all of you: WORSHIP TO GOD IS GIVEN IN EVERYTHING YOU DO! It's correct, and as a human, I dislike it, honestly. You worship God through your devotions, when you exercise, when you eat, when you are being disobedient, and yes, in the bathroom too. So the next time you're doing something unpleasing to God, think twice. Proverbs says that a man who knows the right and does not do it is a fool. I don't personally like that title.
(2)The world is constantly trying to tell you what to do--America may be a free country, but it certainly tries to tell you what to do, through ways you aren't even aware of. An associate of MTV enterprises stated that if there was something that needed to be sold, their TV company could pull it off. It's amazing how a media production company has power to influence us, but the one true bible collects dust on the top shelves of our bedroom closets. TV shows like the ever popular FRIENDS tries to relay that it is okay to have sex with every person that we know of, and go about our business. The bible says one man one woman.....but that's for a different day. Shows like Will and Grace try to put homosexuality on table as something normal--guess what, the bible says THAT is wrong too! With the worl influencing our synapses, you might be asking "How do we renew our minds to figure out God's will?" Here are some pre-thought ways:
1. Get alone with God: Give some time to talk to him everyday. The creator of the universe isn't as boring as you think.
2. Read your bible everyday: God's word is written all over it (inside, outside, up and down too). The more you learn what God's rules for mankind are, the more you will be able to realize it when God talks to you.
3. Don't talk: stay away from mandatory talking. Proverbs says a bridled tongue is wise. You'll soon realize all the things that you would normally say. Putdowns, dirty language, etc.
4. Get rid of it all: Look around your life and find the things you trip up on. TV, computer, music, etc. install a spiritual "V-Chip" and refuse to subject yourself to all worldly things.
5.Pray: Let God know what you are struggling with.
There are many more things that can help you in your walk with God, but my website says I only have 20 megs of space, so I have to cut it short. Talk to your local Pastor about some things that can help you get on the straight and narrow. May God help you on your journeys throughout life. God bless.
